Hi hello! Happy Gay! What a month!
The theme this month has very much been many things started, but few things finished.
The Website Lives!
This month I started this website! It has been on my list to do so for ages, but I finally got around to it, and I am delighted. In the future I would like to transfer it over to a proper domain, make it pretty, etc, but at this point I’m just happy to have a place where I can write things down and then share them with people without having to sell my soul to Facebook or whatever.
I have found it very helpful to have the big ol todo list to keep myself from starting too many new projects / forgetting about things I want to make.
So many blog posts! Yet none published! I’m writing I swear!
At this point I am sitting on 3 blog posts that I have written about half off! One is an analysis of The Beginners Guide which I just haven’t made time/ One is a short rant about texting. The final is bitching about AI. I also need to write about Juice and Sauce in game design. Goodness.
This next month will be pretty busy for me, but I’d like to get at least one other post out. That said I will confess most of my energy has been going to The New Game, so I make no promises. Just vague hopes.
The New Game
THAT’S RIGHT! A NEW GAME! JUST ONE MORE NEW GAME IM GOOD FOR IT.
This month I’ve started working on a project about living with disability, more specifically a House Cleaning With ADHD Hell Simulator. This is not a fun game to play. This is a hostile game. I do not know exactly how player will react to it, but I’m extremely excited to see how people engage with it.
I have bounced the idea of a few folks, and it seems to resonate in the way I hoped.
This month I’ve developed the following for this project:
- Fleshed out the games design, at this point all features are mostly reasoned about and ready for implementation
- Implement systems for time of day, clocks, trash, etc
- Implement player movement, interaction, hunger, health, dialogue, eating, etc
- Some music just to like Vibe It Out. I’m leaning more towards some sort of industrial / noise music at this point but we’ll see what happens
Next month I will be implementing (as time permits):
- Daily progression
- Persistence
- Cooking
- Trash spawns / stacking / graphics pipeline
- Sleep
- The Door
Right now my main objective is to get the entire game fully playable before getting sucked down the polish / art rabbit hole. It’ll be ugly as fuck, but it will work. I’m hoping to finish this within the month, but we’ll see what happens.
I also plan to continue bouncing the games design off of people to see how it aligns with their experience, etc.
I’m really enjoying working on a game with some Sauce.
Music
I have been playing music outside with other people more this month! It has been delightful! And humbling! I still have so much to improve on and learn, but it brings me joy to see how far I have already come and how much more there is to explore.
I’ve also found some weekly public jam sessions I’d like to start attending. I’m really excited!
I also saw some really cool live music this month! I went to my first noise show, and I would love to make something in this genre in the future!
Employment
Remains intact. The work is interesting at infrequent intervals.
Yearning For Git Remotes
This month I stopped pushing new code to my Github. I need to set up my own remote git service, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
This means that I now have a lot of code stored locally! Only existing on a single machine! Which is terrible!
I’m traveling a lot this coming month and really need to find a solution to this in the next week or two. I’m currently leaning towards some sort of VPS running forgejo or similar.
This is a priority.
Games
I’ve been playing more games this month!
This month I enjoyed:
- The Beginners Guide
- Felvidek
- Blood Facimile
- Thick As Thieves
- HELLCARD
Next month I’d like to play:
- LONER_DOG
Conclusion
Anyway that’s been June! It’s been fun, but goodness they really must invent a day with at least 30 hours in it. Or a shorter work week. Or a more efficient alternative to sleep. With Ads.
There is so much to do and so little time.
